Project Overview
On Tuesday, 17th February, our team carried out a hot tub collection and disposal in Twerton, Bath. The customer contacted us to remove a large, unwanted hot tub from their property. The unit weighed approximately 250kg and had reached the end of its usable life.
Due to the size, weight and mixed materials involved, the customer required a professional removal service rather than attempting to dismantle or dispose of it independently. Our role was to manage the full process safely, from collection through to responsible recycling and disposal.
The Challenge
Hot tubs are not straightforward items to remove. They are bulky, extremely heavy, and constructed from a combination of materials, including:
- Metal framework
- Internal motors and pumps
- Electrical components
- Plastic shell
- Timber outer casing
- Insulation
At approximately 250kg, this particular hot tub required careful planning before removal. Access around the property needed to be assessed to avoid damage to fences, paving, or surrounding structures.
In addition to safe lifting and transport, another key consideration was responsible disposal. Simply transporting the entire unit to landfill would not have been the most environmentally responsible solution. The materials needed to be separated properly to maximise recycling.
Safe Collection from the Property
Our team attended the property in Twerton with appropriate lifting equipment and a suitable removal vehicle. Before moving the unit, we carried out a site assessment to determine:
- The safest exit route
- Weight distribution
- Stability of the structure
- Manual handling requirements
The hot tub was carefully manoeuvred from its position, loaded securely into our vehicle, and transported to our storage warehouse for controlled dismantling.
Safety is always the priority when handling heavy items. With significant weight and awkward dimensions, improper lifting can result in injury or property damage. Our trained team ensured the process ran smoothly and efficiently.
Material Separation at Our Warehouse
Rather than disposing of the entire unit in one go, we dismantled the hot tub at our storage facility.
We removed:
- The metal framework
- All internal motors and pump components
- Electrical elements
These metal components were prepared for collection by a licensed scrap merchant, ensuring they entered the recycling chain correctly.
The wooden outer casing was also separated and recycled. By dismantling the unit in-house, we reduced the volume of waste sent to landfill and ensured recyclable materials were diverted appropriately.
This step reflects our commitment to responsible waste management wherever possible.
Licensed Disposal of Remaining Materials
Once recyclable materials were removed, the remaining components were transported to a licensed landfill site in Bath.
We ensure:
- Legal disposal procedures
- Proper waste documentation
- Compliance with local regulations
- Environmentally responsible handling
Large items such as hot tubs should never be fly-tipped or disposed of improperly. Using a professional removal company ensures the process is both legal and safe.
The Result
The customer in Twerton had their unwanted hot tub removed without needing to:
- Hire a skip
- Attempt dismantling themselves
- Transport heavy waste
- Arrange scrap collection separately
We managed the entire process from start to finish.
The site was left clear and ready for the customer to repurpose the space, whether for landscaping, decking, or general garden use.
Why Professional Hot Tub Disposal Matters
Hot tubs are often underestimated in terms of complexity. Beyond their weight, they contain:
- Electrical systems
- Pressurised plumbing components
- Mixed recyclable and non-recyclable materials
Attempting DIY removal can lead to:
- Personal injury
- Damage to property
- Improper waste handling
- Environmental breaches
Using a professional removal service ensures the job is completed efficiently and responsibly.
