Project Duration: Four Days
The Project
Now We’re Moving was appointed to carry out a coordinated series of school moves for The Partnership Trust, which operates 18 schools across the Keynsham and Bath area.
The work took place over four days during the school summer holidays and involved moving furniture, classroom equipment, learning resources, office contents and playground items between three different schools.
The schools involved were Fosse Way School in Radstock, HERS at the Abbot Alphege site in Lansdown, Bath, and Weston All Saints Primary School in Bath.
Because the moves involved educational settings, including specialist learning environments, careful planning and organisation were essential. The work also had to be completed within a limited summer holiday window so that pupils and staff would experience no disruption when the schools reopened.
Planning the Moves Around the Summer Holidays
School removals are often more complex than standard commercial moves because there is usually a very specific timeframe available.
In this case, the work needed to be completed entirely during the summer holidays. This allowed our team to work through classrooms, offices and communal spaces without interfering with lessons, staff activities or pupils.
Four members of our removals team worked across the first three days of the project, with the team increased to five people on the final day.
August also brought particularly warm weather, adding another challenge to a physically demanding project that involved continuous lifting, carrying and loading across several school sites.
Despite the conditions, the team maintained the same careful and methodical approach throughout all four days.
Moving Classrooms, Offices and Learning Equipment
The project involved relocating a significant quantity of school furniture and equipment between the different sites.
Across the schools, there were approximately 200 desks and chairs, together with large cupboards, filing cabinets, boxed learning materials, office equipment and specialist teaching resources.
We also moved lifting equipment and learning equipment, along with selected playground items.
Many of the cupboards contained games, educational materials and files. Although the schools had completed much of their own packing in advance, our team also packed a number of remaining items as the move progressed to help keep the project on schedule.
To support the move, Now We’re Moving supplied approximately 300 cardboard boxes and 20 plastic crates across the three schools.
Providing packing materials in advance helped staff organise classroom and office contents while ensuring smaller items could be transported safely and efficiently.
Tackling Difficult Access
Access conditions varied considerably between the three school buildings.
One of the schools benefited from a lift, making the movement of heavier furniture between floors significantly easier.
The other two schools had no lift access.
This became particularly challenging when moving extremely heavy filing cabinets down as many as three flights of stairs. Staircases included turns and restricted sections, requiring careful handling and communication between team members.
Large cupboards also had to be manoeuvred through corridors, doorways and stairwells without causing damage to the furniture or the school buildings.
Rather than rushing heavier items, the team assessed each route and moved the equipment in a controlled way. Having an experienced removals crew was especially important when negotiating awkward staircases with bulky furniture.
A Coordinated Four-Day School Move
Moving between multiple schools over a relatively short period required the work to remain organised from beginning to end.
Furniture, crates and boxes needed to reach the correct school and, wherever possible, the appropriate classroom, office or department.
Maintaining this organisation reduces the work required by staff once a move has been completed and helps schools return to normal operation more quickly.
By carrying out the work during the summer break, we were able to complete the more demanding aspects of the move without pupils being present and without interrupting teaching time.
Why The Partnership Trust Chose Now We’re Moving
School moves require a removals company that can adapt when circumstances change.
Our approach is based around attention to detail, a can-do attitude and careful handling, whether we are moving a single office or the contents of several schools.
We also understand that educational environments sometimes require additional sensitivity. When moves or deliveries do need to take place during term time, our team takes a considerate and compassionate approach to minimise unnecessary disruption around pupils, staff and specialist learning environments.
Our reputation and customer reviews also help organisations know that their equipment and property will be handled professionally throughout the move.
